The brief
The owners wanted real darkness for sleep, without heavy layers on the wall. The bedroom windows sit in shallow recesses, and the walls are plain white. Anything bulky would have broken the calm of the room.
Our solution
We specified Hunter Douglas Designer Roller shades in a blackout fabric, in a warm neutral close to the wall tone. Each shade is mounted inside the window recess with a fabric-wrapped cassette, so the roll reads as a slim horizontal line rather than hardware. The pair of smaller windows was measured individually to keep the reveal and the drop consistent across both.
The result
Lowered, the shades hold the room dark and even. Raised, the fabric disappears into the cassette and the window returns to a clean opening. The neutral cloth keeps the bedroom quiet in daylight and lets the joinery and finishes stay in the foreground.
