The brief
The home sits close to the street on one side and opens to a walled yard on the other. The owners wanted daylight without being on display, and a treatment that would read as part of the architecture rather than an addition to it.
Our solution
We specified custom shutters in a clean white finish, with wide louvers to keep the sightlines open. Each opening was measured individually: a tall single window in the entry area, a hinged panel beside the rear window, and a bank of three windows behind the sofa. Frames were built to sit flush with the existing casing so the trim lines stay continuous.
The result
Tilt the louvers up and the room fills with soft, even light; the greens of the yard read through the slats. Tilt them down and the street disappears. The white panels sit quietly against pale walls and oak floors, and the hinged panel swings clear when the family wants the full view.
